Issues

  • The game can only be run in 640x480 anything higher makes it crash. Debugging shows that the console is being flooded with the following fixme;
 fixme:ddraw:D3D_GL_update_render_states unsupported render state 41 (COLORKEYENABLE),
value=0x00000000
  • Trying to switch to software mode crashes the game.
  • The game crashes when you've played a level and want to quit, spend some cash, select a new level or view your level goals.
  • After installing the game icon isn't created in Point2Play. An icon is created for "Display Adapter Selector" but that doesn't work. Do not try to run this program as it will mess up the game and will freeze Point2Play.
  • If the installer doesn't work, you can still copy the files to a Point2Play directory or your ~/.transgaming/c_drive/. The files are in <cdrom-path>/SETUP/data. Copy all those files to for example ~/.point2play/Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2/c_drive/THPS2/. This directory (or one with a similar name) most likely exists if you've tried to run setup and it crashed, but Point2Play created the game directory. It's perfect to copy the files from CD-ROM to that game directory. After you've copied the files, apply the no-cd crack and create a new icon in Point2Play. (Tools => Add icon).
  • When you've completed a level 100% and you select quit on the menu, the game crashes and cannot be started, simply copy the career file named THPS2 CAREER- CAREER A.SAV or similar to a different location, remove the Point2Play entry and copy the files from the CD again. (Note: That you may need to be root in order to delete the files from the directory. Since they are write protected. You can open a console, su to root and navigate to your ~/.point2play/ directory and delete the game dir by typing rm -Rv <game-dir>.

Notes

  • The demo has none of the issues described above.
  • I'm not sure what's up with the installer for the full game. It ran perfectly for me once. But after that I couldn't get it to run anymore. I think it might have something to do with the memory registers.

Icon

Since the game fails to create the right icon, I decided to create an icon for it myself. (Yeah, I was bored, so sue me)

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 icon

Looks good in up to 128px icon size. =)
