  • Tels 11:31, 8 Oct 2004 (CEST) The installer will hang at the end when copying HD.exe. This file seems to extract the executables from packed/encrypted versions from the CD, and succeeds doing this. But at the end it fails to copy them to their proper locations. Pressing Abbrechen might hang, too. Issue killall wine from a console to end the installer.
  • Copy HDA/game/code/Release/game_exe.exe manually to game/code/Release/ and then run:
#:~/.point2play/SuddenStrike II/c_drive/Program Files/Sudden Strike II/game> cedega code/Release/game_exe.exe
  • Like game_exe.exe, the editor and animation editor reside initially under HDA/. You need to manually copy them if you want to use them.
  • The patch v1.9 seems to fail to run properly from within Point2Play, exiting with an error message that it cannot find SOUNDS.RUS. You can safely ignore this message. The patch v2.2 seems to run fine, but you need to make sure to set the working path to the Sudden Strike II directory, since it will just extract all files to the working path.
  • In addition, the proper config files are never created in Point2Play due to the abort of the install. Just run the game manually.
  • With the new Cedega GUI from version 5.0 onwards, the game no longer runs. When using a newer (5.x.x) game engine, the game displays the first "logo movie", then crashes. Wtih an older game engine installed under the 5.x.x GUI, the game does simple not start at all.
  • The game crashes with newer Cedega versions when trying to load a save game. The only known workaround is to run it under Cedega v4.1.1.

In SuddenStrike you are the commander of a small army in World War II, and move your units (soldiers, officiers, tanks, trucks etc), seen from top in a pseudo-3D landscape, in real-time. It is similiar to other real-time strategy games like Command & Conquer, but unlike others you have only very limited "production" capacities (e.g. you cannot produce fresh units to replace your fallen ones). This makes the game more challenging because you need to care much more for your units.
