Game no longer dies without an error mesage in cedega 4.2.1. When you install Halo on a Windows machine, apply the latest patch and copy it over to a Linux box, the game will spin up the CD-Rom drive put up the splash then it will go on as if loading but an error window comes up stating: "Cannont allocate required memory. Some other application has loaded where Halo needs to be."

I dont know of any fix for this yet, but I also have not looked into it deeply.

  • Only 1 of 2 Microsoft games where the installer actually works. Game does not work, dies after a few seconds like all Microsoft games do with no error messages.
  • Installer will complain about missing system files, but will continue and install the game with no problems.

Demo Notes (it works!)

  • As of Cedega 5.2 (and possibly earlier), the demo version of Halo is working. The install process is not smooth, and generates a lot of errors, but it DOES successfully install the demo. The demo itself runs well for the most part, but there are a number of 'overbright' objects - including the glare of the sun which makes the screen almost completely washed-out-white when looking at it.
