  • Game may crash after showing intro movie. Turn "freetype" off to prevent crash.
  • Minor graphical bug in main menu (Pentagrams sticks to the options list).
  • If you create a character, quit the game and start it again, you cannot select your previously created character. So it's impossible to load your game. (But see below.)
  • Demo has the same issues.
  • Multiplayer (bnet, cable) starts, but always crashes within first minutes.

Save/Restore in Pre-release demo

  • The following applies to the pre-release demo:
  • The Diablo pre-release demo saves games to drive E for some reason. That usually maps to /tmp, (see the relevant config file for confirmation) which results in obvious problems for restoring games. (I believe it saved games to C:\Windows\temp on Windows, meaning this behaviour is correct for Cedega.) If the file /tmp/Save/Game00.sav exists, then Diablo is doing this.
  • To fix this behaviour, simply remap drive E.
  • If using P2P, open ~/.point2play/Diablo Demo/Diablo Demo.config (assuming you installed it there) and add the following section:
[AppDefaults\\diablo.exe\\Drive E]
"Path" = "/home/username/.point2play/Diablo Demo/c_drive"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "tmp"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
  • You will need to change the installation location as needed.
  • If using plain Cedega, adjust ~/.transgaming/config instead.
  • After this is done, it should be possible to save and load games across sessions, in the pre-release version. The version downloadable from Blizard's site does not work this way, nor does the full game (see below).

Save/Restore in normal demo/full version

  • The following applies to the demo version downloadable from the Blizard site, and the full version:
  • (This was taken from the forums: [1].)
  • Basically, create 5 characters. These characters will be completely useless, so name them appropriately.
  • Now, create a 6th character. This character will be the useful one.
  • At this point, the "select player" screen should have 7 entries: Your character, 5 useless characters, and a "new character" entry, visible upon scrolling down. (The scrollbar is invisible, but it still exists.)
  • Move down to the "new character" entry, then back up to your character. If done right, the stats for your character will appear to the left, and you can use that character properly. You want the actual list to move down, then up.
